Charity drive raises over €7,000

The Nenagh Classic Car Club held its 10th annual charity drive event on Saturday, May 30.

The annual charity fundraising club event, which was rebranded Loughderg100 back in 2023, has significantly grown from strength to strength with over 100 cars taking part again this year. This year the event was in aid of the North Tipperary Hospice. The support the event received this year from everyone from local businesses to spectators was just phenomenal.

The day started off at 10am with a static car show at Carey Glass where there was a spectacular variety of vehicles on display. The car park area in front of the large Carey Glass premises was full to capacity by 11.30am on Saturday morning with vehicles ranging from Maseratis to vintage MGs and there was even a very quirky VW van on display, which looked most pleasing to the eye especially if you are a Springboks fan!

The display created a great spectacle and attracted many passersby to stop and look. The showcase of cars put smiles on the faces of both young and old. The many colours, engine noises and glorious smell of petrol created an atmosphere of great delight for the many car enthusiasts that were there in big numbers, and for many other spectators that were there in attendance, to see the selection of vehicles from the decades made for a most pleasant trip down memory lane as memories of days gone by, past family cars from their childhoods and indeed memories of their first car all struck a chord with the large gathering of onlookers on Saturday morning.

SCENIC DRIVE

The cars departed Carey Glass just after 1pm and drove on the ever-beautiful scenic drive around Lough Derg via Ballina / Killaloe and heading on through Portumna where it finally finished in Borrisokane.

The convoy of cars were welcomed back to the finishing point at the Green Bar, Borrisokane. The Green bar had organised a BBQ and live music, which was the icing on the cake after a most enjoyable day.

As part of the fundraising event this year, the LoughDerg100 committee held a raffle. The winners of the fantastic prizes were as follows, Siobhan Tynan (Sportsmans dream) won first prize – Trailer of Timber, Siobhain McDonnell – second prize, €250 voucher for Nenagh Tyre Centre, Stephen Kennedy – Terryglass – third prize, €150 for Cleary’s Daybreak, Vincent Kinane – fourth prize, €100 voucher for the Green Bar, Borrisokane.

Harry Reinach won the voucher for a 12-month ceramic coating and paint enhancement with Taff’s valeting in our registered drivers draw.

PHENOMENAL RESULT

This event was organised by the Nenagh Classic Car Club and a number of volunteers which formed the LoughDerg100 committee. This committee was led by John-Joe Lewis. John-Joe put in a huge amount of work into this event to ensure it ran like clockwork and it goes without saying the event was yet again a massive success.

A total of €7,351.97 was raised for the North Tipperary Hospice from the LoughDerg100 event and raffle, which is an absolutely phenomenal result. The club are delighted to support the North Tipperary Hospice, who do incredible work within our community.

“It is great to be able to give something back to help support the work of the North Tipperary Hospice,” said John Joe Lewis – LoughDerg100 Chairperson.

The Nenagh Classic Car Club would like to extend a very special thank you to everyone who sponsored and supported this year’s event, Carey Glass – Main Event sponsor, An Garda Síochána and The Green Bar, Borrisokane.

The LoughDerg100 Committee would like also thank Suir Engineering, who made a substantial donation to the LoughDerg100 event in aid of the North Tipperary Hospice.

As we thank the event Chairperson John Joe Lewis for his sterling effort, the Nenagh Classic Car Club are already looking forward to seeing everyone again for Loughderg100 2027!
