Drink driver dropped licence
A man was disqualified from driving after being convicted of being intoxicated while driving at a recent sitting at Nenagh District Court.
On April 6 last year, gardaí were conducting a checkpoint along Sarsfield Street in Nenagh when a member of an Garda Síochána observed a car making a sudden evasive manoeuvre into a parking bay. When he approached the vehicle, he noticed a strong smell of alcohol emanating from the driver, David Grace (24) of Scragg, Burgess, Nenagh. The driver was unsteady on his feet, slurred his words, and dropped his driving licence when asked to hand it over to the garda.
Mr Grace was brought across the street to Nenagh Garda Station. He was tested for alcohol and returned a reading of 66mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath. He was subsequently charged for driving while intoxicated and for driving in a careless manner.
Judge Marie Keane fine Mr Grace €250 with four months to pay for driving while intoxicated and disqualified him from driving for a period of two years. Upon request of defence counsel Kenneth Kerins, the disqualification from driving was postponed until June 1. Judge Keane noted the facts of the case but did not mark a conviction for careless driving.
