Lough Derg Kayaking Challenge
A Limerick-based charity providing specialist support to children and families affected by child sexual abuse and children displaying sexually harmful behaviour has launched a new fundraising challenge on Lough Derg.
Children at Risk in Ireland (CARI), whose national headquarters are based in Limerick, is inviting kayakers and canoeists from across Ireland to take part in the inaugural Kayaking for CARI on Saturday, September 5.
The approximately 20km challenge will take participants from Garrykennedy to Flanagan's on the Lake, raising vital funds to help CARI continue providing specialist therapy, family support and education services for children, young people and families across Ireland.
Demand for CARI's vital services continue, with timely access to specialist support essential to ensuring children receive the help they need, when they need it most. At CARI, referrals relating to children displaying sexually harmful behaviour have increased significantly in recent years, reflecting the changing nature of the challenges facing children and families today.
Funds raised through Kayaking for CARI will directly support CARI's work, helping ensure that children and families can access specialist support when they need it most.

At CARI, we see every day the life-changing impact that specialist therapy and support can have for children and families affected by child sexual abuse and children displaying sexually harmful behaviour.
“Events like Kayaking for CARI are about much more than fundraising. They bring communities together to raise vital funds while sending a powerful message to children and families that they matter, they are supported, and they deserve every opportunity to thrive. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who takes part, volunteers or supports the event, and we hope it will become a much-anticipated annual challenge that continues to grow year after year.”
Participants will paddle approximately 20 kilometres across the beautiful waters of Lough Derg under the guidance of an experienced water safety team, before finishing at Flanagan's on the Lake, where participants, supporters, friends and families will gather for a post-event celebration featuring a BBQ, live music, a raffle and spot prizes.
CARI is encouraging individuals, kayaking and canoe clubs, community groups and corporate teams to take part and help make the inaugural event a success.
