New plan for Tempemore Town Park

Tipperary County Council have opened a public consultation on developing lands at Templemore demesne with new traffic and footpath infrastructure.

This phase runs until February 10 where the public can have their say and lodge submissions online at consultations.tipperarycoco.ie.

The proposed Part 8 planning application seeks consent for the demolition and removal of a disused abattoir building totalling some 111.18sqm, along with new roadway and footpath developments. This provides an ideal opportunity for the local community to have their say, an opportunity that should be grabbed with both hands. The plans entail the provision of a new four-way signal-controlled traffic junction with shared pedestrian-cycle crossings, replacing the existing three-way priority junction of the N62 (Roscrea Road) with Oakdale Park.

Provision is made for a primary two-lane access road - a 6m wide carriageway about 250m in length with a turning head – along with shared pedestrian-cycle paths on either side of the access road.

There would be two internal secondary junctions - 6m wide carriageway each - to facilitate future Templemore demesne masterplan developments. The plan is to have a dedicated internal shared pedestrian-cycle route with two new shared pedestrian-cycle access points through an existing boundary wall running alongside the western edge of the N62 (Roscrea Road).

Provision is made for a new below-ground foul pumping station with an above-ground control kiosk, a hardcore surfaced maintenance access road, a foul rising main and a new gravity foul sewer extending to connect to an existing foul sewer along the N62 (Roscrea Road). The plans would involve the decommissioning and diversion of existing surface water sewer to a new surface water sewer discharging into an existing open drain.

Additionally, it’s envisaged to have new hard and soft landscaping with associated public realm works – including repairing parts of the revetment wall of the Lady's Walk - and all other ancillary and associated site services and development works above and below ground level.

These would include public and site lighting, new watermain and a new surface-water drainage system consisting of a variety of measures, with a swales-detention basin and hydro-brake discharging to an existing open drain. It was determined that there is no real likelihood of significant effects on the environment arising from the proposed development, and an environmental impact assessment (EIA) was not required.
