RECENT DEATHS
Sr Magdalena Marie (Bridget) Berkery, Mount Carmel, Parkmore; Sisters of St Marie Madeleine Postel, Parkmore, Roscrea and formerly of Moat Quarter, Kilfeacle, died peacefully on Thursday, January 1, in the care of the staff of Mount Carmel Nursing Home, Roscrea. Deeply regretted by her community and the sisters of the congregation, her niece Joanne O'Brien, nephews Michael and Paddy Berkery, grandnieces, grandnephews, relatives and friends. Funeral Mass took place on Saturday in Mount Carmel Nursing Home Chapel, followed by burial in St Cronan's new cemetery.
On Thursday, January 1, Phil O'Meara of Limerick Street, Roscrea, died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family at Eagla Lodge Nursing Home, Shinrone. Predeceased by his beloved wife Dena, son Thomas, parents, brothers and sisters. He will be sadly missed by daughters Marian and Ann, son-in-law Mike, adoring grandchildren Darragh, Aoife, Ciara, Michael, Jack, Tommy, Seana, Jamie and Ally, and his great-grandchildren, their partners, nieces, nephews, extended family members, good neighbours and wide circle of friends. Requiem Mass took place on Sunday in St Cronan's Church, with burial afterwards in Dunkerrin new cemetery.
Phil's family would like to thank all the staff at Ealga Lodge for the care they provided to Phil over the last 12 months. Their kindness was greatly appreciated and will not be forgotten.
Betty Carey (née Lyons), Derrymore, Roscrea and formerly of Rath, Birr, died peacefully on Monday, December 29, surrounded by her loving family, in the care of the wonderful staff in the Allen Ward at Tullamore Regional Hospital. Predeceased by her parents Peter and Roseanne, beloved husband Tommy and brothers Johnny and Paddy. Deeply cherished by her heartbroken children Anne, Brendan and Edel, son-in-law Paddy and daughter-in-law Liz. Adored granny to Niall, Ami, Marc, Ruth, Rory, Rachel, Yseult, and Claire; precious great-grandchildren Rosie, Bonnie, Max and Isla. Will be sadly missed by her brother Peadar and sisters Peig, Nan, Ellen and Mary; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, good neighbours and wide circle of close friends.
Funeral Mass took place last Thursday in St Cronan’s Church with burial afterwards in St. Patrick's Church cemetery, Knock.
ROSCREA TRAIL BLAZERS
Happy New Year to everyone who supported us during 2025 and we hope to see more of you during 2026. We have had a very busy 2025 with trips to Madeira, the UK and numerous hikes around Ireland and 2026 is shaping up to be every bit as busy with trips to Austria, Snowdon, island trips, charity walks and numerous challenge walks to be completed. On this Friday, January 9, we are back to our regular night walks with a walk around the Kinnity/Glinsk Castle Loop. Distance: 7.5km, Grade: Moderate. Meeting at the Kinnity Castle carpark at 7pm. Please bring head/hand torch. We would encourage anyone thinking of taking up hiking for better health or as a way to destress to please make contact with the number below. TEMPLEMORE LADIES FOOTBALL
The club held a fine presentation night in the Templemore Arms on December 18 where they honoured five teams. Medals were presented by the various managers and a fine supply of refreshments were also provided to the players.
CHURCH NEWS
New Parish Website: The brand-new parish website is in place - www.templemoreparish.ie - is inclusive of Templemore, Clonmore and Killea. This will have a reach out to all parishioners and all associated with the parish at home and abroad, giving all the parish and community information required, spiritual, sacramental, pastoral and weekly bulletin. The various church collections throughout the year can be paid online on the parish website.
Parish Funeral Team: The team on duty for January is Sr Helena and John Egan. We would like to express grateful thanks to all members of the parish funeral team for their ministry and service throughout the year.
CHRISTMAS DAY SWIM
Well done to all those who took part in the Christmas Day Swim in Templemore Town Park in aid of the Hospice. Those brave hardy souls took to the freezing waters once again in aid of a great cause.
