Nenagh AFC 1-2 Fairview Rangers

Nenagh AFC welcomed Fairview Rangers to Brickfields on Sunday and turned in a fine performance but were eventually being pipped at the post by the defending league champions.

With one eye on the dreaded drop zone, Nenagh could be forgiven for shutting up shop in the hope of forcing a draw, instead they made it an uncomfortable morning for the league leaders.

Even when former Treaty striker Yoyo Mahdy put Fairview ahead midway through the opening half, the home side kept their composure. They went within a whisker of levelling when Matt O’Gorman headed over from Adam Ryan’s free kick.

After the break, Kieran Barr and Pa Steed were both denied by former Nenagh favourite Aaron Savage but the keeper could do little to prevent Barr levelling after good work by Daniel Connolly on 65 minutes.

With ten minutes remaining, somewhat against the run of play, Fairview grabbed the winner when Darragh Rainsford finished off from a corner kick.

Nenagh AFC: Carl Williams; Colm Hayden; Craig Hilmi; Kieran Barr; Bryan McGee; Saeed Ryan; Adam Ryan; Pa Steed; Matt O'Gorman; Dylan Morrison; Daniel Connolly. Subs: Adam Brennan; Aaron Cusack; Conor McCormack; Daire Hogan; M Manley

Lower Leagues

In the Premier ‘A’ League, Carew Park beat Kilmallock 2-1 which allowed Newport Town to close the gap to two points on the leaders and recorded a 9-3 win over Summerville Rovers. Brian O'Sullivan (3), Craig O'Connell (2), Conor Brett (2), Elliot Slattery and Jamie Kavanagh netted for the winners.

In Division 1B, Pike Rovers ‘B’ beat Ballynanty Rovers ‘B’ in the top of the table clash which meant Nenagh AFC ‘B’ went joint top with Balla following a facile 9-0 win at Kilfrush. Kieran O'Brien bagged a hat trick with Diarmuid Fitzpatrick, Kieran O'Donoghue, Steve Daly, Marcin Kolkowski, Dan Furey and J McLoughlin sharing the remaining goals.

In Division 2A, Lough Derg were leapfrogged at the top of the table when they lost 6-3 to Herbertstown. Lough Derg scorers were Cian McAuley, Jack Grace and Daniel Fogarty, while Lough Derg ‘B’ went down 4-1 to Knockainey, Dara King’s goal proved a mere consolation.

In the Munster Under 17 Cup, Newport Town progressed to the third round at the expense of Corbally United, winning 5-3. R Gaffney 2, David Rowland, W Meehan and Brean Buckley were on target for the winners.

Lough Derg also progressed with a 4-3 penalty shootout victory of Herbertstown after the tie finished 2-2 at Clarisford Park. Herbertstown started the better and were up by two at half time. Derg started the second half in the best possible way with Otis Seidel scoring with an excellent finish after a through ball from Ger McWey. On 65 minutes, Aidan Lawlor-Joyce equalised. Derg prevailed on penalties with Eoin McCarthy turning on the heroics by saving three penalty kicks.
