No short term plans to increase rail frequency

Iarnród Éireann has confirmed that at this time there are no short term plans to increase the frequency of trains on the Limerick-Ballybrophy line, serving Castleconnell, Birdhill, Nenagh, Cloughjordan and Roscrea.

Presently there are five passenger trains daily Monday to Friday.

In a response to Limerick City and County Council requesting an increased frequency on the line, Iarnród Éireann replied: “Iarnród Éireann continues to keep its timetable under review on the Ballybrophy to Limerick (via Nenagh) line for opportunities for additional services subject to fleet, staff resources and demand. However, at this time, there are no imminent short-term plans for increased service levels on this route.”

Iarnród Éireann explained that this is due to the availability of gatekeepers and fleet.
