Ambitious plans by Lough Derg Yacht Club

Lough Derg Yacht Club in Dromineer is planning a number of new developments at its site on the shores of the lake.

The club has applied to Tipperary County Council to carry out improvements to its boat mooring facilities at the western shoreline of the north jetting on its lands.

Proposed works would include removal of an existing timber edge decking and localised re-alighment of the shoreline on the south-western section of its north jetty.

The works provide for a new two-metre wide walkway/pier edge constructed on a line of a new stone filled galvanised steel mesh gabions, topped with sustainable hardwood jetting edging and bitmac path onshore.

Other works would include a proprietary “Versa-Dock” part floating docking system for mooring an RNLI rescue rigid inflatable boat (RIB) to facilitate rapid launching of the vessel in emergencies and to provide for save mooring.

Among other works planned are a domestic effluent pump-out station for sailing and mooring boats (mainly cruisers) with a receiving/pumping station to connect to the existing foul effluent sewerage system at the club.

Landscaping enhancement plans on the site include the planting of native trees to provide wind shelter and protection for moorings as well as screening from the lake.
