Boherlahan-Dualla GAA launches 'Pedal for Peggy' 24-hour cycle

Peggy Leahy was diagnosed with a rare immunodeficiency and will undergo Chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant in Newcastle

This year Lá Na gClub celebrates the indelible mark clubs have left on our communities right back to our foundation in Hayes Hotel in November 1884. It’s a day for us all to celebrate and support our communities.

For us in the parish of Boherlahan-Dualla, this has taken on added significance as we attempt to support one of our families.

Last October, Seamie Leahy was the captain of victorious County Intermediate Hurling team. It was also around this time that Seamie and his wife Niamh received the news about their daughter Peggy. This is their story:-

Peggy was diagnosed with a rare immunodeficiency and will undergo Chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant in Newcastle. For this to happen the family will have to move and live in Newcastle for anything up to 6 months.

Peggy is an inpatient in Crumlin Children’s Hospital at the moment. Niamh is off work to care for her and Seamie will have to take time off when the time comes to go to Newcastle.

Like all Boherlahan women Peggy is tough and when the doctor recently asked where she was from her reply was “Well I’m from Boherlahan but I’m really a Tubberadora Lady”.

The Leahy family have been part of the Boherlahan Dualla club from its foundation right back to the fabled Tubberadora team of the 1890’s.

She loves Boherlahan as much as her Daddy and she can’t wait to get a pink helmet and to train with all her friends. Seamie and Niamh will also be bringing Peggy’s little brother Lorcan with them to Newcastle. Lorcan is so excited to have his sister play with him when she feels better.

To support Peggy and the Leahy family as they relocate for her treatment Boherlahan Dualla GAA, Camogie & Ladies Football clubs are organizing “Pedal for Peggy”, a 24 hour cycle to raise funds to support them. It will start on Friday 29th March at 5.00pm and run through to Saturday 30th March at 5.00pm.

Donations can be made through GoFundMe :https://gofund.me/551ff871

We will have updates on the cycle progress throughout the day and night on social media pages if people want to follow.
