Killaloe Sailing Club hosts annual Regatta

Killaloe Sailing Club hosted its annual Regatta last weekend in hat proved to be a mixed bag in terms of sailing conditions.

Following the success of the RS Inland championship a fortnight ago, and the Junior Regatta the previous week, last weekend saw 25 dinghies on the water trying to deal with sunny near flat calm conditions on Saturday followed by a wet and miserable Sunday with shifting strong breezes that made for exciting but very unpredictable racing for the 40 or so sailors on the water.

The weather had been forecast to change late on Saturday, and sure enough, for the brave few that decided to camp on the grounds of the club, the torrential rain of early Sunday morning meant a soggy start to the second day’s proceedings.

Several boats retired with damage on Sunday, caused by the difficult conditions. Although most, if not all competitors were fairly exhausted by the time they made it back to shore, spirits remained high for the prize giving before sailors headed home for a well-earned rest.

First place was taken by Alex Voye, sailing a Laser 1, 2nd - Bryan Bryce, sailing an RS 400 and 3rd - Mike Harte, sailing a Laser 1.
