Strong increase in new home commencements for Tipperary
The latest data released by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage shows an increase of 324% in the number of new homes commenced during the first nine months of this year compared to the same period last year.
A total of 552 new homes have been commenced in County Tipperary since the start of the year, with 26,536 new homes commenced nationally, representing one of the strongest three-quarterly periods of growth since records began and second only to the equivalent period of 2024 when Government initiatives such as the development levy waiver and the Úisce Éireann rebate resulted in a significant jump as many projects were fast-tracked towards commencement.
Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Browne TD welcomed the latest figures:
“I am again greatly encouraged to see such positive numbers today here in Tipperary and across the country. There’s momentum here showing we are on the right track when it comes to increasing capacity and helping to solve our housing crisis.
“As we move into the final quarter of the year, we can take great encouragement from the fact that all of the key indicators in the construction sector; commencements, completions and planning permissions are now moving in the right direction putting us in a very strong position to deliver homes.
"Behind these numbers are real people who serve keys in their hands. Every new commencement represents the first step on a journey for a person or family who will one day call that place a secure home. For their family to grow up and grow old in. That’s what I want to make happen for people in Tipperary.”
