Under 21 ‘A’ Hurling Championship
Kilruane MacDonaghs recorded a 2-17 to 2-15 victory over Burgess in Group 1 on Sunday in Kilcoleman in what was a repeat of the 2025 ‘B’ final.
The visitors took an early early-point lead thanks to a Michael Cleary goal in the 12th minute but two points from Paul Cahalan and the ever-reliant David Nealon on frees left only one between the sides at the break, 1-8 to 0-10.
Kilruane pushed on early in the second half thanks to points from Brian O’Meara, Charlie Kennedy and Hugo Healy as Burgess struggled to reduce the gap below three points for the majority of the half. A Michael Hennelly goal for Kilruane in the 56th minute looked to have sealed the win for Kilruane but Burgess sparked into life and Joe O’Dwyer came up with goals in the 58th & 60th minutes to create a grandstand finish. However, a late Brian O’Meara point ensured Kilruane earned the two point victory.
The other game in this group, Ballina v Nenagh Eire Og was deferred due to Ballina’s involvement in the County Junior Championships.
In Group 2, Borris-Ileigh laid down a warning to their competitors as they began their quest for three North titles in a row with an 8-15 to 1-8 win over Silvermines in Dolla on Sunday.
Despite being without some of their likely starting line-up, first half goals from Shane Ryan (2), Lar Stapleton and Paddy McCormack gave them a 4-6 to 0-5 half time lead and a further four goals followed in the second half from Cathal Kennedy (2), Stapleton and a completed hat-trick for Shane Ryan. The ‘Mines battled hard throughout with Ronan Cunneen leading the line with five points and Conor Ryan also added a goal.
Moneygall and Toomevara played out an exciting 1-16 to 0-19 draw in Moneygall on Sunday.
Both sides were dealing with a difficult cross-field wind which made shooting difficult. The game was very competitive with sides trading points throughout the first half and Toomevara took a slender 0-11 to 0-9 lead at half time, Toome were three up after the restart until Moneygall struck level through a Sean Stapleton goal in the 40th minute after some good work from Tadgh Whyte.
Toome pushed on to go three ahead again with ten minutes to go but three points from Eoghan Doughan, who finished with 0-9, saw the game level on 59 minutes. Darragh McCarthy put Toomevara a point up again in injury time before Doughan set up Cormac Hoolan to equalise and earn a share of the spoils for Moneygall. Best on show for Toomevara was Darragh McCarthy who did the majority of the scoring and Billy O’Brien (0-3) and Patrick Hackett (0-2). On the Moneygall side, Eoghan Doughan 0-9, Sean Stapleton 1-1 and Tadgh Whyte 0-3 done most of the damage up front.
In the Under 21 ‘B’ Hurling Championship, there was only one fixture scheduled but this game was called off after Lorrha conceded to Kiladangan.
Round 2 is due to take place next Sunday, see GAA Scoreboard for fixtures and keep an eye out on Tipperary.gaa.ie for any changes
