Classic cars and big hearts

The Distinguished Gentleman’s Drive took place on Sunday, September 27.

This event is a fundraising and awareness event in aid of men’s mental health and prostate cancer research. The Distinguished Gentleman’s Drive took place in over 60 countries, which includes almost 600 venues; however, Nenagh was the only Irish registered event.

This year the Nenagh Classic Car Club team, which represented Ireland, ranked 12th out of 61 countries for their fundraising efforts, which is an amazing achievement. This is a credit to the hardworking team and the tremendous support from the people who donated to this very worthy cause.

Drivers of the vehicles turned up in dapper attire in keeping with the theme of the event, which made for a great spectacle indeed. There was great amusement to see the inquisitive look on people’s faces as the cars drove passed with the drivers dressed to impress behind the wheel.

This year’s drive was especially poignant as it was dedicated to the late Justin Furnell, who passed away in recent weeks after a long bout with pancreatic cancer after beating prostate cancer. Justin took part in the first drive back in 2023 in his beautiful Jensen CV8.

Justin’s wife was presented with a beautiful photo of Justin with his beloved Jensen CV8 at the Gentleman’s Drive.

Over €4,500 has been raised so far by the Nenagh Classic Car Club – Gentleman’s Drive team – which is absolutely amazing! All proceeds from the event go directly to men’s mental health and prostate cancer research through the charity Movember.

The event was organised by Samuel McKeever and hosted by the Nenagh Classic Car Club. This is the fourth year that the event has taken place and it is only fair to say that it is growing from strength to strength.

The Nenagh Distinguished Gentleman’s Drive team would like to thank everyone who supported this event to date, which is in aid of such a worthy cause. The team hope to roll out the dapper attire and vintage cars, and do it all again next year.
