Nenagh up and running inspired by Morrisson hat-trick

Nenagh AFC finally got their Premier League campaign up and running in emphatic fashion on Sunday when they recorded a convincing 4-1 victory over Moyross United in Brickfields.

After suffering defeat in their opening two games away from home, Nenagh were determined to get their first points on the board and produced the response they were looking for, with Dylan Morrison the star of the show after claiming a superb hat-trick.

Morrison opened the scoring ten minutes before half time, giving Nenagh a deserved advantage and doubled their lead with twenty minutes remaining when Dylan Connolly created the opening for Matt O’Gorman, who finished confidently.

Moyross refused to surrender and E Mullane pulled a goal back five minutes later, giving the visitors renewed hope. However, their hopes were short-lived as Morrison restored Nenagh's two-goal cushion within a minute.

The striker then completed his hat-trick, four minutes from time to put the result beyond doubt and give Nenagh a much-needed first win of the campaign.

Newport Town had begun their Premier ‘A’ League campaign in perfect fashion, but their 100 per cent record came to an end against a determined Corbally United side on Saturday.

Newport had entered the weekend as the only team with full points after two games, following a thrilling 4-3 victory away to Herbertstown.

That game saw Eoin Looney put Newport ahead before Herbertstown turned the match around through Bradley McNamara and Tyrique Leamy. Looney restored parity after the interval, but David Ryan again put Herbertstown in front. Newport refused to be beaten, with Callum O’Connell equalising on 80 minutes before Aaron Coleman struck in injury time to complete a memorable comeback.

Against Corbally, however, Newport came unstuck despite another goal from Looney. Two goals from Dermot Hughes secured victory for Corbally, leaving the sides joint top on six points.

Nenagh AFC ‘B’ suffered defeats to Holycross and Corbally United ‘B’ in Division 1A. Holycross won 3-0, while Corbally emerged 7-4 winners in a high-scoring encounter.

Newport Town ‘B’ enjoyed a 3-1 win over Mungret Regional ‘C’ with Darragh Meany, Dan Egan and James Kirk on target. They later suffered a 4-2 defeat to leaders Kilmallock ‘B’, with Darragh Meaney and Ben Weist scoring for Newport.

Newport Town ‘C’ remain unbeaten in Division 2B and have made an impressive start. They defeated Caherdavin Celtic ‘B’ 2-1 at home, with John Ryan and Kieran McCarthy scoring the Newport goals.
