August exhibition in Nenagh Library

The Shape of What Remains by Tom Frost - born and reared in the south Tipp town of Clonmel, Tom Frost (Culligan) spent most of his 20s on the east coast of the United States. He discovered art at an early age, while not, in his own words, “perfecting it” until his late 20s. He cites the works of Frank Miller, Francis Bacon and Yoji Shinkawa as major influences.

As with many artists, tragedy informed his painting and it was in these harsh experiences that Tom found his voice in art. A lot of his work has taken shape through the esoteric lens of loss and grief to mythologise it. “I was always trying to create something and spent upward of 15 years trying to figure that out, wondering what exactly it was that I was missing. In the end it was sadness and tragedy. In grief and mourning we need art; we need to make all the bad moments make sense, to give it meaning. It gives me comfort, that's all that matters.”

Tom is also the author of a graphic novel and a soon to be released book of poems. His exhibition will be on view in Nenagh Library though out the month of August and we encourage everyone to come and see this thought-provoking selection of works.
