Online webinar for small food businesses
The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) continues its 2026 ‘Breakfast Bite’ series of free, informal online webinars designed for small food businesses. The next session will focus on how to implement a robust Listeria Environmental Monitoring programme.
How to implement a robust Listeria Environmental Monitoring Programme will be held on Tuesday, July 28, at 10am.
In this short webinar, Dr Mary Lenahan, Senior Technical Executive, FSAI will outline key elements of the FSAI’s Guidance Note 45 on how to implement a robust Listeria Environmental Monitoring (LEM) programme in ready-to-eat food businesses. The session will explain how food businesses can take a risk-based approach to developing an effective Listeria Environmental Monitoring programme, including identifying appropriate sampling areas by using the knowledge and expertise of staff.
The webinar will also provide practical guidance on how food businesses can use environmental monitoring to strengthen their food safety management systems, meet regulatory requirements, and apply best practice in their day-to-day operations.
This event is ideal for owners, managers, and staff of food businesses who want to better understand environmental monitoring, stay compliant with regulatory standards, and apply practical testing best practices in their day-to-day operations.
Encouraging people to sign up for the Breakfast Bite webinar, Mr Greg Dempsey, Chief Executive, FSAI said, “Listeria monocytogenes remains an important food safety concern due to its ability to persist in food processing environments and the serious illness it can cause, particularly among vulnerable groups. Having effective controls in place to identify and manage Listeria risks is essential to protecting consumers’ health and maintaining confidence in our food system.”
“Guidance Note 45 provides practical advice to help food businesses develop a robust Listeria Environmental Monitoring programme, supporting them to take a proactive approach to identifying potential risks and strengthening their food safety management systems. We encourage all relevant food businesses to attend this free webinar and take full advantage of the guidance and resources available to support their teams.”
