Pupil names Tipp's new street sweeper
A local pupil has been announced as the winner of a community competition to name Carrick-on-Suir’s newest street sweeper.
Lacey Waters, from Presentation Primary School, was revealed as the winner at a special event held at the school before the holidays. The competition, which included a colouring element, saw strong participation from local schools, crèches and playschools.
Cathaoirleach Councillor David Dunne hosted the event and officially launched the new Bucher Compact sweeper, now proudly named: 'Lightning Mc Clean', with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Prizes were awarded on the day, with the top ten entries recognised for their creativity, while visits to local crèches and playschools are also planned to acknowledge the best colouring submissions.
Cllr Dunne paid tribute to the children of Carrick-on-Suir, stating: “I want to praise the children of Carrick-on-Suir for the interest they’ve shown in looking after their town. Their enthusiasm and awareness about keeping their community clean is fantastic to see.”
The initiative aimed to encourage children to engage with environmental awareness, promoting the importance of keeping Carrick-On-Suir clean and supporting wider messages around reuse, recycling and keeping Tipperary tidy.
The event was warmly received and highlighted the important role young people can play in caring for their local community.
