Toomevara U14’s enjoy contrasting week

Toomevara’s Under 14 Camogie team started off the week with bitter disappointment in a county final but six days later were Munster glory.

County Under 14 ‘A’ Final

Boherlahan-Dualla 4-7 Toomevara 1-6

Boherlahan-Dualla were crowned County U14 ‘A’ Camogie champions after a superb display against Toomevara at the Camogie grounds last week.

With temperatures soaring, the heat provided an extra challenge for both sets of players, but it did little to dampen the quality or intensity of the contest.

Boherlahan-Dualla made the perfect start, striking for two early goals in quick succession through Amelia Gleeson and Muireann Hickey to seize the initiative. Toomevara responded well, battling hard in every area of the field and registering three first-half points. However, Boherlahan maintained their advantage with a goal from Aoife McLoughlin and a point from Muireann Hickey to lead 3-1 to 0-3 at the interval.

The second half was every bit as entertaining as the first. Toomevara refused to give in and were rewarded with a goal that reduced the deficit and raised the excitement levels even further.

Roared on by a tremendous crowd, both sides continued to produce excellent passages of play in a contest that showcased the bright future of camogie in the county.

Boherlahan-Dualla responded in impressive fashion, with Annabelle Ryan finding the net before adding six second-half points. Muireann Hickey contributed four of those, while Aoife McLoughlin and Sophie Fennell each added a point to seal a deserved 4-7 to 1-6 victory.

Both teams deserve enormous credit for producing a county final of such high quality. Their skill, commitment and sportsmanship ensured a memorable occasion, and there is no doubt the future looks exceptionally bright for both Boherlahan-Dualla and Toomevara.

Community Games

Toomevara retained their Munster U14 Community Games Camogie title in style following two superb victories over the Limerick and Clare champions in UL on Sunday.

The Tipp champions defeated Limerick champions Mungret St. Pauls in the semi-final. It was a very tight first half with Toome leading by 1-3 to 0-5 at the break.

Playing with the aid of a strong wind in the second half, Toome eventually got into their flow to emerge victorious 2-13 to 0-6.

This set up a Munster title decider versus Clare champions Crusheen/Ballinruan/Tubber.

Toomevara started well and a well-taken Lucy Elderfield goal had them in front at the break 1-9 to 0-3. Further second half goals from Elderfield (2) and Millie Doran saw Toome run out winners against a fine Clare team.

It was a great team performance from Toomevara with each girl contributing handsomely to the victory.

The team look forward now to the National Finals at the end of August in SETU Carlow.
