Newport man Aaron Donovan, who has been confined to a wheelchair as a result of injuries sustained in an accident last year.

Bike run to aid Aaron

A few motor cycling enthusiasts, who have been struck by the positiveness of a young Newport man, paralysed from the chest down, to get on with living life to the fullest, have combined to assist him financially cope.

Newport native, Aaron Donovan (22) was hospitalised for eight months following an accident last September, but while his battle against horrific injuries has saved his life, the consequences are that he will never again walk. But, confined to a wheelchair, he is very determined to get on with his life and do whatever work he can, despite his difficulties.

Evan Clifford (Nenagh) and a few of his motor cycling enthusiasts, on becoming aware of his unfortunate situation decided to raise a small amount of financial help for his benefit.

“He is a very positive young man, who doesn't want anything. We suggested funding a motorised wheel chair for him and he told us that he didn't want it,” he said.

Collectively they have decided to run an idonate page at https://www.idonate.ie/crowdfunder/evanclifford with a target of €2,000 and to run a sponsored motorcycle drive on Sunday August 9.

The message on the idonate page summarises “Aaron's spirit and determination have profoundly inspired us all. His positivity and zest for life shine through even in the face of these challenges. However, the financial burdens associated with the necessary rehabilitation and various adjustments to his lifestyle are monumental. Like the most challenging biking trails we ride, Aaron too is faced with an intimidating journey ahead.”

Assembly for the motorcycle run is at Ahern's Bar (V94oY3C9) at Bunkey on the main Limerick-Newport road, a short distance from the town.

They will proceed through Newport town on to a very scenic route via Rearcross, Kilcommon, Cureeny, Silvermines, Birdhill, and Ballymackeogh, returning to the starting point later in the afternoon.
