Major housing development planned in Templemore

Sola Energy Solutions and Cobbs Development Ltd have lodged a planning application for 56 new houses at Oakwood on the Clonmore Road.

This private estate will consist of high quality two, three and four-bedroom A rated homes. This is the first private estate in 20 years to be built in the town.

Tipperary TD, Michael Lowry, said: “Paul and Catherine O’Brien are to be complimented on this initiative and investment, which is a vote of confidence in the town and very significant for the future of Templemore.

“Housing is the biggest challenge facing our country. Far too many families across Tipperary are impacted with this housing crisis. Building more homes to meet demand is a priority.

“The Government has been focused on clearing the blockages to housing. Speeding up the planning process. Rezoning land. Investing in water infrastructure, increasing capacity in our electricity grids. It is actions such as this that will allow estates to be built across Tipperary.

“It is important that we provide balanced housing opportunities. In this regard I welcome the fact that Tipperary County Council are well advanced in the construction of 45 new social houses in Templemore. These houses will be available for occupancy to applicants on the housing list. The homes will be allocated from August this year and up to the middle of 2027.

No private residential development has occurred in the town since 2006, primarily due to inadequate infrastructure capacity within the local Irish Water network. Therefore, this proposed private residential development is a much-needed boost for the local community.

Each residence will include modern Air-to-Water heating systems, ensuring a comfortable, high-quality, and environmentally sustainable living experience for future residents.

As the main contractor for this scheme, SOLA Energy Solutions reflects the growth and commitment of both companies to provide sustainable housing solutions within local communities. Managing Director, Paul O’Brien, stated: “This is an exciting step forward for the business. Templemore and the surrounding areas are experiencing a clear demand for new housing, and we believe this development will deliver much-needed homes built to a very high standard.”

This private residential development is expected to create significant employment opportunities throughout the construction phase, supporting local trades, suppliers, and service providers in the wider Tipperary area. This will not only enhance the local economy but also help accommodate staff and families relocating to the area, especially with the ongoing expansion of the Garda College.

Templemore is increasingly recognised as an attractive commuter town for Dublin, Cork, and Limerick due to its excellent rail connections and central location. Subject to planning approval and the upgrade of the local pumping station by Irish Water, the first homes could be completed by summer 2027, delivering a significant boost to the town, local employment, and the wider community.
