Captain McCarthy aiming to build on success

For Tipperary captain Caoimhe McCarthy, it was pure delight after she led her side to a Munster senior title against Waterford on Saturday.

“Any day you come out and win silverware it is a great day, so we are delighted to win,” said the defender.

“We knew that with Waterford, there was never going to be anything in it, every time we play them there is never anything in it and today was no different.

“There was literally only a puck of the ball in it and delighted to come out at the end of a tight match with the win.”

There were a few nerve wrecking moments towards the end of the game as Waterford pushed for a late leveller, but Tipp held out much to the delight of McCarthy who was watching on after being substituted.

“It got a bit nervous towards the end, and there was a cup at stake, and coming down the stretch it was very tight and Waterford were pushing, but we manage to hold out which was massive for us,” added the captain.

Despite the win, the Knockavilla-Donaskeigh Kickhams player still knows there is work to be done ahead of the upcoming All-Ireland series.

“It was great team performance, everyone chipped in all over the field, and the subs also played a huge part to get us over the line,” she added.

“We have been slowly improving as the year has progressed, but there is still so much work to do, even from today’s game ahead of the Waterford game in the All-Ireland in a few week’s time, so it will be back to the drawing board Tuesday night and get the head down and continue to work hard.”
