Sessions continue at the Black Mills
Roscrea Heritage Society was delighted to welcome back Na Réadóirí (Séamus Moloughney, Pat Byrne and Paddy Curran) to launch the first of the Black Mills Sessions 2026.
The evening marked a vibrant and memorable return for the much loved music series in the unique setting of the historic Black Mills. The trio delivered a captivating performance, showcasing a rich variety of traditional folk songs that resonated with the audience and set the tone for the night.
It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces return, while also extending a warm welcome to those attending for the first time. A highlight of the evening came when Séamus invited audience members to take the mic, resulting in an engaging and spontaneous mix of storytelling, poetry, and song.
The society extends sincere thanks to the OPW for the use of the venue and to Bernadette for her assistance in ensuring the smooth running of the event. Special appreciation is also due to PJ Wright for capturing some great moments from the night that reflect the atmosphere and energy of the session.
Finally, heartfelt thanks to all who attended and contributed to the evening’s success; your continued support is greatly appreciated.
SAVE THE DATE!
The next Black Mills Session will take place on Friday, May 29.
For the first half of the evening, we’ll be joined by Colin Williams. Colin lives for music; he is always searching for new and meaningful songs and really enjoys discovering interesting and eclectic artists. His repertoire is a broad mix or Americana and Folk. There will be songs you may not know but feel you have always known.
Joining us for the second half of the evening is Dayna Quinlan. Dayna is a 19-year-old singer-songwriter from Shinrone. She holds the Award of Excellence in Music from Griffith College and recently competed in the Battle of the Buskers Competition with Buskers Bar. She has also just completed a standout performance in the lead role of Wendla Bergmann in the musical Spring Awakening with the Maynooth University Musical Society, highlighting both her vocal ability and stage presence.
On the night, Dayna will perform a dynamic mix of pop, folk, rock, soul and musical theatre.
