Dr Harty Cup Dinner Dance Celebration

St Joseph's CBS Nenagh's Dinner Dance to celebrate the winning of the prestigious Dr Harty Cup U19 A Hurling title was held last Friday night.

This chic celebration was attended by the players and their families, the management team, past and present staff members of Nenagh CBS.

After the drinks reception, MCs for the night Mr Dermot Brislane and Ms Michelle Russell welcomed all in attendance to the special night and introduced Principal Karen O’Donnell. Ms Karen O’Donnell praised the players for their passion and commitment for the game, their leadership both on and off the field and their never-say-die attitude. She also thanked past principals and hurling coaches who had passed on their love of the game to students of today and yesterday.

She acknowledged the hard work done by Deputy Principals Mr Dermot Brislane and Ms Michelle Russell, and all staff members who contribute in many ways to the school. Finally, she applauded the selflessness of the management team; Darragh McCarthy, Paul Butler, Mark Gennery, Jack Peters and Donach O’Donnell.

Throughout the night video highlights of their journey to capturing the title compiled by Mr Paul Butler were shown and brought many fond memories back to those in attendance. MCs Mr Brislane and Ms Russell interviewed a variety of guests on the night giving a great insight into how the Dr Harty Cup campaign is lived in many households of the entire panel.

Manager Donach O’Donnell and Captain Eoghan Doughan each praised the hard work, commitment and dedication shown by all of the players throughout the year. This was an incredible celebration, a fitting testament to all the boys achieved in their fantastic win.

Munster Council Chairman Tim Murphy, and Brendan Shanahan, Chairperson of the North Tipperary GAA Board, both congratulated and applauded the coaches who volunteer to promote hurling in the school, feeder primary schools and all the local clubs.

Tipperary are proving to having a great underage set-up, with the fourth Dr Harty Cup title been awarded to a Tipperary school for four years in a row. This success feeds into the success experienced at Minor, U20 and senior inter-county hurling teams.

Thanks was given to the Abbey Court Hotel and Leisure Centre who support our Dr Harty Cup team and Gold Standard Physiotherapy, who work closely with the mentors to ensure all the team are at peak fitness, and also to Siobhán O'Leary of Yoga Nenagh for her sports yoga sessions

Track & Field Success at East Munster Schools Championships

Nenagh CBS enjoyed fantastic success at the recent East Munster Schools Track & Field Championships held in Templemore last Thursday.

Diarmuid Maloney continued his excellent form, powering to gold in the Senior Boys 3000m, while it was great to see Kevin Finn make a strong comeback from injury to take silver in the same race.

Our sprint star Christopher Diasonama impressed once again, securing silver medals in both the 100m and 200m Senior events, and adding another silver as part of the 4x100m relay team. Ruairi Walshe also delivered a superb performance, claiming silver in the Senior Boys 400m — a great achievement!

A standout day for Przemyslaw Cichecki, who had a real breakthrough performance, earning silver in the Intermediate 100m and High Jump, with personal bests in both events. Relay events brought more success for the school:

The Intermediate 4x100m team (Przemyslaw Cichecki, Alex Dillon, Gavin Hickey & Ben Ryan) raced to gold.

The Senior 4x100m team (Daniel Connolly, Kian McDonald, Jack Carroll & Christopher Diasonama) secured silver.

The Senior 4x400m team (Daniel Connolly, Kian McDonald, Diarmuid Maloney & Ruairi Walshe) finished in style, winning gold.

Well done to all athletes on a fantastic day of competition — a great testament to their hard work and dedication! Many thanks as always to Mr Gary Scully, who accompanies and encourages our athletes at race events.

First Year Geography Trip 2026

All of our First Year students headed off on their annual Geography trip last Friday — and what a day it was!

This year, the Geography Department explored new locations, visiting the fascinating Dunmore Caves and the adventure-filled Castlecomer Discovery Park. It was a fantastic opportunity to step outside the classroom and experience real-life geography, helping students bring their learning to life.

At Dunmore Caves, students were amazed by the limestone features, caves, and caverns — both interesting and informative! At Castlecomer Discovery Park, everyone got involved in orienteering, building their map-reading skills and teamwork.

The highlight of the day? The high ropes and zip-lining! Plenty of fears were faced — and conquered!

A huge thank you to our Geography teachers for organising such a brilliant trip, and to the SNAs for their support throughout the day.

DCG Trip to Lough Boora

Our Fifth and Sixth Year Design Communication Graphics (DCG) students from St Joseph’s CBS Nenagh had a fantastic and rewarding trip to Lough Boora Discovery Park!

After completing their Geometry Booklets, students took to their bikes to explore the park, discovering the fascinating geometry behind its stunning sculptures.

Thanks to their DCG teacher Mr Niall Quigley for organising the great trip. It was great to see architectural sculptures and nature intertwine so beautifully.

Forensics Workshop

Our Fifth Year science students took part in an engaging forensics and criminology workshop with Pat from Forensic Fun.

During the session, students explored the assassination of John F Kennedy, the 35th President of the United States (1961–1963), analysing key evidence and clues to piece together what happened.

The workshop included hands-on activities in fingerprinting and ballistics, giving students a real insight into investigative techniques.

They examined the events of November 22, 1963 and worked collaboratively to evaluate the evidence before forming their own conclusions about who may have been responsible.

Students also learned about further study options and potential careers in the field of forensic science.

A big thank you to Pat from @forensicfun for a fantastic and informative workshop, and to Mr Gary Scully for organising this valuable experience.

Wellbeing Workshop

A huge thank you to Shane Casey for delivering his brilliant workshop to our TY group last week. Shane spoke to students about wellbeing, personal care, resilience and character building; using his own real-life stories and personal experiences, focusing on the building blocks needed and strategies that can be used to build character, achieve goals, build positivity in their own lives. Students found it very engaging & thought-provoking.

Thanks also to Declan Burgess, Creative Ireland Tipperary Programme & Tipperary Comhairle na nÓg for arranging for Shane to deliver his workshop in our school. One of the best workshops we have had this year

TYs weed Castle Garden

Well done to our TY students who worked diligently to help remove bindweed, sycamore suckers and other weeds that had been impacting on the lavender plants in the beautiful serene location of Nenagh Castle Garden in the shadows of the two churches.

Managing Waste Posters

Ms Alison Collins’ Second Year CSPE class recently designed posters to bring awareness to the importance of using the correct bin - general waste or recycled material - when disposing of rubbish in school.

Great effort was made by all, but three posters stood out for clarity and effective communication and were chosen by an impartial judge; thank you, Mr Eoghain O’Keeffe!

Well done to Luke Enright, Ethan Roni & Christopher Ryan. Chocolate treat on the way!

All posters have been placed around the school today to remind students of the importance of using the correct bin, and to avoid contamination of clean, dry paper and plastic waste for recycling.
