Students take part in public speaking competition

A large crowd from schools across the county recently attended the council chamber in Clonmel for the Tipperary Regional Final of ARTiculation 2024.

Participating schools were Gael Cholaiste Cheitinn, Clonmel, CBS Highschool, Clonmel, Presentation Secondary School, Clonmel, CBS, Nenagh and Ursuline Secondary School, Thurles. ARTiculation Ireland is a public speaking competition which promotes the appreciation and discussion of art, artefacts and architecture in secondary schools throughout Ireland.

The competition seeks to engage students between 16-18 years, regardless of background or experience, with art, artefacts and architecture to develop the confidence and ability to express their opinions and conclusions.

Participating students are offered the chance to deliver a 10-minute presentation before their peers and a wider audience about a work of art, an artefact or piece of architecture of their choice, through a series of internal school heats and regional heats across Ireland with the chance of being selected for the National final. On the day Ella Ni Mhuirgheasa, Gael Cholaiste Cheitinn was selected as the winner with Aaron Fahey form CBS Highschool Clonmel in second place. Both Ella and Aaron will go forward to the All-Ireland Final of ARTiculation in University of Limerick in April.
