'Poignant day' for council

Last Monday week was a "poignant day" for Tipperary Co Council, as it was the last meeting in Nenagh for several of the council's longest-serving members.

At the end of the council's April meeting, Cllr Roger Kennedy observed that a number of those remaining in the chamber would no longer meet there as they are not standing for re-election. Cllrs Michael Fitzgerald, Noel Coonan, Seamus Hanafin, John Rocky McGrath, Hughie McGrath and the Cathaoirleach Cllr Ger Darcy had around 150 years of service between them.

Cllr Kennedy said a "huge amount of wisdom" was about to be lost with the impending retirement of these councillors.
