Jack and DJ Fitzgerald with their haul of trophies from the Fleadh Cheoil.

Fleadh success for local siblings

DJ Fitzgerald, Ballycommon Comhaltas, came home a champion from the Tipperary Fleadh Cheoil in Ballycommon last week.

He is the champion U12 Banjo player for the second year in a row. DJ also came first in mandolin; he came first in guitar, he came first in singing, he came first in mouth organ, and he came third in tin whistle.

His brother Jack, only seven years of age, received a certificate for U9 whistle. He also came second in singing, singing his favourite song ‘Gentle Mother’, and he also came second in harmonica, so he got two county medals and is through to the Munsters.

Emma Fitzgerald with her trophy after the Fleadh.

The lads' sister, Emma Fitzgerald, came first in mandolin, and received three county medals and also is through to the Munsters.

Emma played with a broken wrist, so this is really an absolutely amazing achievement for Emma because she was in so much pain, she really was, so a massive congratulations to Emma!

Well done to everyone and a massive congratulations and well done to Ned Kelly, Barbara, Mike Murphy and all the volunteers; so much work goes into this, and they had the place absolutely amazing.
