Newport school musical is a ‘sell out’

Impressive show by St Mary's TY students

A second level school's annual musical show has recorded a complete ‘sell-out’ after being extended to running for four nights in response to public demand.

St Mary’s Secondary School Transition Year Musical 2022, ‘Raise your Voice’, was an outstanding success for the 105 TY students who took to the stage at Newport Community Centre to perform the production.

‘Raise our Voice’ was their fifth annual production and once again was under the wonderful stewardship of Ms Sarah Allen (producer/musical director) and M. Edel Shinners (choreographer).

The school musical has become a significant event in the school calendar. This was the first time for the school musical to be staged over four nights due to popular demand.

The main cast for the production was as follows:-

Deloris - Laura Parsons, Mother Superior - Alex Cox,

Sister Mary Robert - Asha Slattery, Sister Mary Patrick - Ella Quirke, Sister Mary Lazarus - Shane O’Donohue, Monsignor O’Hara - Billy Moylan, Eddie - Cameron Byrne, Curtis - Martin McCabe, TJ - Luke Kennedy, Joey - Marcin Boch, Pablo - Cormac Meagher, Ernie/Cab Driver - Owen Grant, Tina - Katie O’Regan, Michelle - Heather Ryan, and Crystal - Aoife Mellerick.

Members of the ensemble were Katie O’Regan, Heather Ryan, Aoife Mellerick, Isobel Cassidy, Robin Coffey, Isabelle Collins, Isabel Eivers, Kate Finucane, Sinéad O’Riordan, Abigail Slattery, Muireann Jones, Dillon Walsh, Darragh Bourke, Niamh Lunn, Sophie Walker, Aisling McMahon, Slaine Goodwin, Lucy Bailey, Aoibhe Nugent, Aoife McNamara and Orlagh Rochford.

Clodagh Healy was in charge of props and the backstage crew included Kate Buckeridge, Mikeala Hannon, Jamie Long, Sean Darcy, Harry Clohessy, Darren Collopy, Mark Lonergan, Matthew Walshe, Joseph Crowley, Tara O’Grady, Marion Kennedy, and Lucy Nolan. Spotlights – Jack McCarthy, Darragh Meany.

The MCs for the show were Dara Kennedy and Maeve Gaffrey.

Well done to 4A1 and 4A2 who took to the stage for the matinee on Wednesday as well as Wednesday and Thursday nights and to 4A3 and 4A4 who took to the stage for Tuesday’s matinee as well as Friday and Saturday night.

Special commendation to the production team and all staff in St Mary’s who supported the production in numerous ways; the Transition Year students, parents and guardians who were extremely helpful, assisting with costumes, ticket sales, spot prizes and front of house.
