Thousands more taken by fraud

Online fraud incidents are worsening in the local area with almost €20,000 stolen from three bank accounts between Nenagh and Roscrea in recent days.

The first incident resulted in €4,000 being removed from an injured party's account; €5,000 was taken in the second incident and €10,000 in the third. It is understood that all of these incidents arose from contact from parties purporting to be from the injured party's bank.

Gardaí have for a number of months now been warning of the increased prevalence of this sort of crime. People are urged not to click on links in any suspicious emails or text messages, and to be wary of disclosing PINs and other personal identification information.

Meanwhile, gardaí are appealing for witness information following a theft incident at a business premises on Kenyon St last Thursday. A female reportedly entered the premises between 4.40 and 4.45pm and removed a sum of cash from a till. She was wearing a black jumper, tracksuit bottoms and had her hair tied up in a bun.

Also in the last week, gardaí seized around €500 worth of amphetamine - pending analysis - after a male was arrested under the Misuse of Drugs Act at Portroe last Friday.
