The Newport Scór Novelty Act cast and producer after winning the All Ireland title for the second time at Claremorris on Saturday night last.

Scór stars retain All Ireland title

A hilarious comedy act entitled ‘Lisdoonvarna Here We Come’ has retained the All Ireland Scór Novelty Act Award for a star-studded local cast for the second consecutive year against stiff competition.

Newport GAA Scór Novelty Act team, the reigning Tipperary and Munster Champions, defeated finalists from each of the other three provinces at the 2020 All Ireland Final of the contest at Connacht’s newly-built Dome in Bekan, outside Claremorris, Co Mayo, on Saturday night.

The completion of the 2020 final of the GAA Senior Scór had been postponed from last year due to the Covid-19 restrictions.

Newport's entry, ‘Lisdoonvarna Here We Come’ was written by Tom McCabe and producer of the comedy show was Mary Browne, the same duo who also scripted and produced the winning entry in the contest in 2019.

Most of the cast of Cathriona O’Brien, Carol O’Hora, Lil O’Grady, Paraic Kennedy, Padraic Kennedy, John Tuohey and Tom McCabe were also members of the cast in 2019.

A talented actor, who has appeared in several of the Newport Players drama productions, Tom McCabe, local farmer and fencing contractor, once again stole the show as the leading member of the production on Saturday night.

Playing the role of a lonely 62-year-old bachelor farmer looking for a wife, Tom thrilled once again as the story line took an unexpected turn after he received delivery of a ‘robot’ for a wife.

He was ably supported by the brilliant cast, all of whom have previously won the hearts of their audiences in drama and once again delivered to All Ireland standard on the national stage.

Newport GAA Club has extended their “congratulations to the Newport GAA Novelty who made it two All Ireland’s in a row this weekend with a great win in the All Ireland ScÓr Novelty Act competition”.

The club spokesperson continued: “We would also like to congratulate Siobhan Egan, Newport (Tipperary and Munster representative) who gave an outstanding performance in the Solo Singing competition, singing Gortnamona.”

They expressed thanks to the huge number of supporters who travelled to Mayo to support both acts. “We would also like to congratulate our fellow Tipperary representatives who also won All Ireland’s at the weekend with Noel Joyce from JK Brackens winning the Recitation Competition and Newcastle winning the Figure Dancing competition.”
