Toomevara fall to Annacarty

Annacarty recorded a crucial win in their second game of the County Senior Camogie Championship in Toomevara on Saturday.

The West ladies had lost to Thurles Sarsfields in the opening round while Toomevara were facing in cold having had a bye in the first round.

In tough conditions a young Toomevara side gave everything they had but couldn’t match the stronger more experienced Annacarty team.

Toomevara also suffered a double blow with keeper Paula Ryan stretchered off in the second half with an ankle injury and Joanne O’Farrell, who was excellent at full back, suffering a broken thumb but played the last fifteen minutes through the pain barrier.

There was little between the sides in the opening minutes but Annacarty settled after the water-break and dominated proceedings. Toomevara never gave up and on three occasions found the back of the net, with Laoise Cummins scoring two while Gemma McCarthy scored from a free.

For Annacarty, Tipperary seniors Jean Kelly and Eibhlis MacDonald were excellent especially in the second half where they scored some super points. Ciannait Walsh was moved from wing back to midfield and this had a positive impact.

The West side also welcomed back Karen Fox who slotted well into centre back while up front Eva O’Dwyer also played well.

For Toomevara Shauna & Jill Anne Quirke, along with Jemma McCarthy and Mary Flaherty all played well. .
