Action taken over Tountinna scramblers

Gardaí were actively patrolling popular areas around Lough Derg at the weekend, most of which were very busy with the good weather. No incidents were reported.

A number of prosecutions are pending over the use of scramblers and off-road vehicles in the Tountinna area over the weekend. A spokesperson said gardaí have received numerous complaints over the use of these vehicles in the area and action has been taken in relation to alleged road traffic offences.

Gardaí are investigating the throwing of stones at vehicles on the M7 at Gortybrigane, Birdhill. Damage to one car was reported and CCTV camera footage is being investigated. An incident in which rocks were thrown at a car at Ashbury, Roscrea, last Friday is also under investigation and a file is being prepared for the DPP.

Inquiries are also ongoing into reports of criminal damage to a house at Clare St, Nenagh, on Wednesday of last week. Elsewhere, a mobile phone was stolen from a counter top at Barack Obama Plaza in Moneygall last Thursday but the property was recovered after gardaí examined CCTV footage. A file to DPP will follow.

Gardaí are continuing to investigate the shooting of a number of swans outside Nenagh earlier this month.

A garda spokesperson confirmed that the incident happened in the Ardcroney area and several swans were killed. A file on the matter is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
