The Newport Electoral Area continues to have the highest level of infection.

Covid rates rise in Nenagh area

The latest 14-day incidence rates for Covid-19 in the four electoral areas in north Tipperary show Newport continues to have the highest level of infection, as it has had for several weeks.

But while the rate in Newport is now falling, it rose in all the other three electoral areas of Nenagh, Roscrea-Templemore and Thurles.

The Newport district, which includes Ballina, Birdhill, Portroe and Newtown, recorded a 14-day incidence rate of 1,088.4 per 100,000 population on January 18th, with 178 confirmed cases.

This compares with the previous 14-day incidence rate a week earlier of 1,229, and 201 confirmed cases.

All electoral areas of north Tipperary have incidence rates that were lower than then national average of 1,334.6.

The 14-day incidence rate for Nenagh on January 18th was 814.1, with 174 cases confirmed over the fortnight up to that date.

This is a rise on the rate and case numbers recorded a week previously when Nenagh had a 14-day incidene rate of 776.7 and 166 cases.

The 14-day incidence rate in Roscrea-Templemore on January 18th was 813.5 and 135 cases - a rise compared to January 11th when the rate was 674.8 and 112 cases.

The 14-day incidence rate in Thurles on January 18th was also up, at 835.8, with 162 cases. A week earlier the incidence rate stood at 804.9 and 156 cases.
