Bearing this in mind, ‘Vessel of Voices’, an anthology of short stories and poetry, all the work of local writers, is just the Christmas present for you to give or receive!
When the Committee of Dromineer Nenagh Literary Festival (DNLF) appointed John W Sexton as its second Writer-in-Residence to facilitate a series of writing workshops in the summer of 2019, little did we think that such a rich vein of local writing talent would need further mining. But it did and thanks to the generosity of Tipperary County Council and the Arts Council, another year of funding was approved. Bringing a group of like-minded individuals together, in a trusting and approving environment, writers, new and not so new to the craft, flourished under John’s guidance.
However, like so many activities in 2020, John’s mentorship was affected by Covid-19 but he surmounted all the obstacles to nurture his charges through to the finish. Edited by him, the selections John made mean the anthology runs to about two hundred pages, packed full of originality, showcasing the various outlooks and different experiences of the fourteen writers who contributed to it.
John believes that this anthology will carry you, the reader, with the people who inhabit it. Some of those people are real people of the past; some are inspired by experience; some are pure products of the imagination. Do accept this invitation to travel with them. You’ll be glad you did.
