Gardaí to deliver Christmas gifts to local nursing homes

Gardaí in the Nenagh Garda District have a mission to personally deliver Christmas gifts and cards to seniors in all our local nursing homes.

Our seniors have had a difficult time during this pandemic and gardaí are asking for public support to send some Christmas cheer their way. Such has been the reaction to this initiative in Nenagh that Superintendent Eddie Golden has decided to spread the Community Santa appeal throughout the district.

“We have had a great response to date and would like to thank everyone who has contributed so generously,” Supt Golden said. “The feedback has been exceptional and, as a result, I have escalated the initiative to the entire Nenagh District to include Nenagh, Roscrea, Newport and Borrisokane.”

How do people get involved?

Local primary school children can send in Christmas cards to bring a smile to the senior person's face this festive season. Also, members of the public can donate a small gift to their local garda station.

Gifts accepted are: Slippers, socks, blankets; scarves, hats, gloves; puzzle books, books, calendars, magazines, stationary and jigsaws; bath products, hair brushes; toiletry sets, perfumes, and soaps; chocolates and sweets, etc.
