One of the favourites to lift the County Intermediate title, Moyne-Templetuohy booked their place in the semi-final, but had to work hard against injury hit Moneygall in Sunday’s quarter final.

Despite losing corner back Cathal Kennedy through injury after only seven minutes, Moneygall rallied and were 1-5 to 0-7 ahead at the first water break. They then lost corner forward Cathal Hogan through injury coming up to half time, but were only a point behind, 0-13 to 1-9 at the interval.

However, as in the previous game against Gortnahoe/Glengoole, they did not get the start to the second half they needed. Moyne Templetuohy upped a gear, and were six points clear after before Joe Fogarty had Moneygall’s first point after 42 minutes. You could sense that the game was slipping away from Moneygall. They were three points behind at the water break, and that would be as close as they would come in the end.

Gearoid O’Connor failed with two frees in the opening minutes, but the Tipperary under 20 player got his side in front with a point from play. Joe Fogarty swiftly equalized. He followed with a point from a free, and then Brendan Toohey hit a long range free to make it 0-3 to 0-1 by the fifth minute. O’Connor’s Tipp under 20 colleague Conor Bowe to reduce the gap to the minimum, and Tom Meade levelled by the ninth minute.

Eoin Whyte was beginning to be the dominant figure at midfield, and he got Moneygall in front again with first of his four points after ten minutes. Points from Meade and O’Connor (free) got Moyne-Templetuohy in front again.

Ciaran Quinlan’s goal was a great boost to Moneygall, followed by a point from Adam Hogan. Eoin Whyte extended the lead, but there was quick response from Moyne-Templetuohy through Gearoid O’Connor (free) and Diarmuid Fogarty.

Joe Fogarty restored the Moneygall lead, only for O’Connor (free) and Conor Bowe to get Moyne-Templetuohy in front. Eoin Whyte levelled from long range. It was to be as close as they would come for the remainder of the match. O’Connor hit a point from a 65, and one from play, before Bob Kenny pointed for Moneygall, to leave it at 0-13 to 1-9 at the break.

On the resumption, Moyne Templetuohy forged ahead with two points from Diarmuid Fogarty, and one each from Diarmuid Leahy, Tom Meade and Tom Hassett  to go six points clear before Joe Fogarty pointed a free and he pointed twice more to make it 0-18 to 1-12 at the water break.
Gearoid O’Connor pointed on the resumption, then a great shot for goal by Joe Fogarty was deflected over for a point. He and O’Connor exchanged points from frees, then Eoin Whyte pointed to have the gap down to two.

But Moyne-Templetuohy were not to be denied and points from O’Connor (free) and Bowe stretched the lead before Joe Fogarty had a point from a free in the dying moments but it wasn’t to be as Moneygall bow out at the quarter final stage once more.
