Tipperary’s Finest 15 unveiled
The hurling supporters of Tipperary were asked to come up with the Finest 15 of Tipperary senior hurlers who were on the six All Ireland Senior Hurling winning teams between 1989 and 2019.
The final results were weighed 50% for postal/email submissions and 50% from our daily online polls on www.nenaghguardian.ie.
There was a huge response with Tipperary supporters having to decide between 58 different players for the fifteen positions.
Brendan Cummins, Cathal Barrett, Padraic Maher, Tommy Dunne, Michael Cleary, Seamus Callanan polled very strongly.
There were some great contests for positions such as full back, right wing back, centre back and the second midfield position which saw very little separating the leading candidates.
The most eye-catching omission is Noel McGrath who failed to be selected, coming closest in midfield where he won his third All Ireland medal in 2019, however, his versatility in playing in three different positions in this three All Ireland victories counted against him.
