Lucky thirteen for Ormond who end losing run

Nenagh Ormond produced their best performance of the season when they desperately needed it in recording a bonus-point win over relegation rivals Dolphin at Irish Independent Park on Saturday to lift themselves off the bottom of Division 2A of the All Ireland League.

It brings to an end Nenagh’s ten game losing run just at the right time as they ran in four first half tries to blitz the home side and now jump four points clear of Dolphin and out of the automatic relegation spot.

Taking positivity from their performance in the defeat to Cashel the previous week, Nenagh began brightly and were rewarded for their early pressure as Josh Rowland crossed for the opening try, converted by Conor O’Brien.

A Daryl Foley penalty got the home side off the mark but Nenagh welcomed playing on the 4G surface with their back line making hay and making good yards, leading to captain John Hayes scoring the second try, with O’Brien adding the extras once more.

Dolphin responded well with Andrew Dorgan cancelling out the try with one of his own, converted by Foley to cut the margin to four points once again.

However, Nenagh always looked dangerous in attack and following a Conor O’Brien three-pointer, Dolphin gave a cheap penalty away, Nenagh punished them as John Healy crossed for the third try, with O’Brien adding the extras.
