Buy a brick in Lorrha fundraiser

The Social Community Enterprise for the Advancement of Lorrha/Rathcabbin (SCEAL) committee at Visit Lorrha & Dorrha are launching their fundraiser in the Community Hall, Lorrha on Sunday, February 16th, at 3pm. Local lady Suzanne Corcoran, an accomplished golfer, will officially launch the 'Buy a Brick' Campaign.
Over the last five years SCEAL have been tirelessly working to improve their local area by promoting tourism, heritage and providing a daytime hub for the parish by opening a community shop, tea room and heritage centre in the hall in Lorrha village.
This shop and tea room are open seven days a week, Monday-Friday 10am-4.30pm and Saturday and Sunday 10am-2pm. It is run entirely by volunteers and sells essential groceries as well as produce and crafts by local suppliers.
In addition to this, SCEAL have hosted and attended country markets, run historical talks, provided guided tours to tourists, universities and schools and provided a space for many community events.
The hall is also used by Lorrha Variety Group, Active Retirement, First Responders and various other community groups.
At this stage SCEAL are hoping to expand by building an extension onto the existing hall. This will contain the tea room, community shop, arts and crafts and heritage centre and create an opportunity to host more community events in the main hall.
SCEAL recently received a grant of €149,000 from the Town and Village Renewal Scheme. They are launching this fundraising effort in order to make up the shortfall for the cost of the build.
The cost of a brick is €100 and is described by SCEAL as “an investment in our parish, our future and a legacy for future generations”.
Bricks can be bought by an individual, a family, businesses, clubs and groups. The fundraiser will be ongoing for a number of months in the run up to the build. Bricks can be purchased online at www.visitlorrhadorrha.com, by cheque or cash in the SCEAL shop or from any committee member.
The target and the amount SCEAL need to raise is €75,000. When the fundraising is complete, Scéal will be commissioning a board with the names of all who purchased a brick, to be displayed in the new extension as a permanent thank you. SCEAL wish to extend an open invitation to their fundraising launch where there will be opportunity to see some of the work they have been doing, meet the committee and hear about their vision for the future of their parish.
