A ruthless display from Old Crescent well and truly swatted away the challenge of Nenagh Ormond last Saturday as the Limerick men went over the whitewash for no fewer than eight tries.

Defensively porous, particularly in the second half, Ormond were split open time and again by a flying Old Crescent back line who showed no mercy in subjecting their opponents to their ninth consecutive defeat, with Ormond now trailing third from bottom Ballymena by nine points in the table.

Nenagh were in need of a good performance here to get confidence and results flowing and the management made a number of positional and personnel switches with Josh Rowland moving to the wing, while Conor O’Brien moved to out-half in an effort to inject fresh impotus in the back line.

Nenagh started reasonably well, taking the lion’s share of possession in the opening ten minutes with O’Brien sending a cross-field kick to Rowland on the right wing who linked up with Peter Coman whose chip and chase led to a five metre scrum in the fifth minute. Old Crescent managed to stave off this pressure, turning the scrum into a penalty but Nenagh had the first effort at points in the tenth minute coming from an ambitious Conor O’Brien penalty from just inside the Nenagh half but the Portroe man couldn’t get the required purchase on the strike as it came up well short of the posts.
