Trimmed down Tipp panel to create edge for 2020

The Tipperary senior hurlers will have a trimmed down panel for 2020 as they look to create that edge which will give them a chance of retaining the All Ireland title for the first time since 1965.

The All Ireland champions return to competitive action this Sunday for the first time since the All Ireland success last August when they host Clare in MacDonagh Park, Nenagh in the opening round of the Co-Op Superstores Munster Hurling League.

And coach Darragh Egan has confirmed that this game as well as the match against Limerick on Friday 20th December will be an opportunity to run the rule over players before a final panel will be confirmed in February.

We have to get an edge somewhere this year,” Egan said, confirming that the 40 man panel of 2019 will be cut by four or five players for the coming year.

The 35 or 36 lads that are lucky enough to be on the Tipperary senior hurling panel next year will have earned it.

There will be under 20's chomping at the heels of the current panel as well as players that showed up well in club matches all looking for a slice of the pie.

It's a really exciting challenge for us as coaching and management team to see the lads over the next two months and to finalise our panel in mid to late February.”
