Conor Kenny can't be accused of shying away from his leadership role this year.

As joint captain of the Borris-Ileigh team along with Sean McCormack, Kenny has stepped up in a major way when his team needed him.

Kenny has scored 1-31 from play in seven championship games, having sat out the defeat to Moycarkey/Borris. However, in the North semi-final when his team really needed him in the second half he stood up and got the crucial scores to peg Burgess back and force extra time and then double extra time where his goal finally won the day, as he finished with 1-7.

The last Sunday week, when his side was down to fourteen men following the sending off of Liam Ryan, Kenny scored seven points from play, four of them in the twenty minutes following going down to fourteen men to see them past Kilruane MacDonaghs.

Some days they go over but I left a few behind as well but I'm delighted to get a few scores and help the lads out,” was how the understated Kenny said of his role to date.

However, resilence has been a feature of Borris-Ileigh's campaign to date Kenny said.

Even against Drom (in the quarter) final we got off to a bad start and were five points down but we believed in ourselves and the system we have so we just kept plugging away.
