Moneygall advanced to the North Tipperary Intermediate hurling decider following a thoroughly absorbing semi-final clash with Shannon Rovers on Sunday evening.

Moneygall’s victory affords them the opportunity to atone for last year’s loss to Borrisokane in the North final but they were pushed all the way by a determined Shannon Rovers side who fought back from a nine-point interval deficit to push Moneygall to the pin of the respective collars.

Moneygall won the toss and elected to play with the aid of a stiff breeze but it was the Rovers who drew first blood with a well-taken Conal Moran point, but Moneygall’s response was immediate with Sean Fogarty on target from close-range.

The nip and tuck nature of the contest continued for the opening quarter with Adam Hogan (free) and Bob Kenny on target for Moneygall while an eye-catching brace from Austin Tierney saw the sides locked at 0-3 apiece after nine minutes.
