Bale heads Guilfoyle’s fab four in 2019 Derby

Greyhound racing enthusiasts in North Tipperary have been spoiled over recent seasons with an unprecedented presence at the business end of the sport’s most prestigious events and enjoying multiple classic success, the Moneygall kennels of trainer Pat Guilfoyle continue to plunder top honours at elite level with the 2019 Boylesports Irish Derby now firmly in their sights.

With a talented team of five remaining to last Saturday’s third round, the kennels can count themselves unlucky not to have guided all to quarter-final stage but on another highly pleasing Derby outing, the brilliant Magical Bale led the charge as four Guilfoyle challengers advanced.

Desperate to go one step further than last year when runner-up to Ballyanne Sim, Magical Bale appears as sharp now as at any point in his career and he would get back to winning ways on Saturday when making the most of his suitable Trap 1 draw in the penultimate heat.

A smart break would immediately see him take control of the race while establishing a commanding lead on the run to the first bend and he would ease clear of Knight Rocker when reaching his five-length winning margin before halfway. Reducing the heat to a virtual procession, he would post 29.46 in a comfortable passage thereafter.
