Patrick Flynn Sales and Operations Manager Shelbourne Park presents the trophy to Ray Patterson after Skywalker Logan won the 2019 Corn Cuchulainn at Shelbourne Park.

Logan scripts latest leg in legend legacy

Following a highly impressive passage through what has arguably been the hottest ever staging of the Gain Corn Cuchulainn at Shelbourne Park over the past month, the Pat Guilfoyle trained superstar Skywalker Logan completed victory on Friday with a stunning performance to land the stayers classic, adding yet further to his astounding and most unique racing profile.

Opening his campaign with a slick 41.37 for the 750-yard trip, he would atone for second round defeat when back to winning ways in 41.51 at semi-final stage, a heat which brought the elimination of second round track record breaker Redzer Ardfert!

A Trap 3 draw for Friday’s final appeared to offer every opportunity to contest the lead on the short run to the first turn and once repelling fellow semi-final winner Cushie Jet to the home-straight for the first time, Logan was in pole position with a circuit to race.

A one length lead at that point would change little to the back-straight but the Guilfoyle powerhouse would begin to draw clear of his closest pursuer approaching the final bends and a greater threat would emerge when reaching the home stretch as Barrys Tea hero Maireads Pearl edged closer. With that rival certain to finish strongly, Skywalker Logan was made to display his immense resolve out front but never likely to be denied, he registered a one length verdict in a brilliant time of 41.32.

There are so many superlatives that could be thrown at Skywalker Logan and all would be fully justified for he is that rare competitor who makes his sport a compelling watch, whatever challenge he takes on. Even amidst an era where we are spoiled with a plethora of gifted greyhounds across all disciplines, his racing CV is an almost incredulous list of brilliance with a versatility that simply can’t be matched.
