Tsomething for the whole family to enjoy on Wild Child Day, August 21st.

The wild and wonderful outdoors is calling in Nenagh

From insect hunts to learning new crafts, archaeological digs to exploring historical buildings, there’s something for the whole family to enjoy on Wild Child Day, August 21st, at events all around the country, as part of National Heritage Week 2019. Wild Child Day is about getting up and out, and into the great outdoors to explore the wondrous surrounds we sometimes fail to appreciate.

There's a Wild Child Bug Safari beginning from Nenagh Arts Centre, Banba Square, Nenagh 2 - 4pm: Join us on Wednesday, August 21st for our Wild Child Bug Safari with Albert Nolan, wildlife enthusiast, horticulturist, environmentalist and Nenagh Guardian columnist (Wild Corners). Albert will take you on a Bug Safari to the Castle Garden to discover the bugs and insects that live there.

Heritage Week 2019, which takes place nationwide from August 17th to 25th, will showcase the joy, diversity and accessibility that can be found within our country’s rich heritage. As a nation of storytellers, all of our heritage is linked to stories of people, places, moments and things. The week will be a call to action for people to discover, interpret and embrace their heritage and in turn create their own new pastime - to become an explorer, an archaeologist, a storyteller or a wildlife enthusiast.

With over 2,000 events taking place throughout the country, there is undoubtedly an event for everyone, no matter their age or interests. The eclectic offering of events in this year’s schedule includes picnics and parties, talks and tours, ceilís, crafts and craic, all of which serve to make our country’s heritage more inclusive than ever.

Some other events happening around the country on Wild Child Day include:

Wild Flower Day, Irish Workhouse Centre – Portumna, Co Galway – County, 1pm - 2pm: Children will learn about biodiversity and our native Irish wild flowers through the much-loved pastime of flower-pressing, and then share in old actives such as daisy chains and flower crowns.
