Sky could be the limit for Shark in Tipp Cup showdown

TRAPRISE

It will surely be standing room only at Thurles Greyhound Stadium this Saturday evening as the final of the 2019 Tipperary Cup houses a host of popular finalists from loyal supporters of the Premier circuit and our own local aspirations within the perennial feature remain firmly on track following an exhilarating semi-final session.

A true darling of Thurles, Tina & Tommy Morrissey’s Great Blue Shark (Confident Rankin/Lady Midnight) has been the story of the competition so far, for having graduated to this top grade of competition following A3 stake success just four weeks ago, the June 2016 whelp is enjoying his career best form at present which saw him advance to the final when second in the opening semi on Saturday last.

Housed in Trap 1 however, the Shark looked to have scuppered his chances when slow to stride on the inside while trailing the field on the run to the opening bend. An ability to gallop the Thurles bends while racing tightly against the rails would however see him sneak a couple of places upon turning before gamely galloping to third position at the top of the back-straight. Leading at this point was Doggy Mcdogface but the Declan Byrne charge would visibly slow passing the halfway mark which would offer a clear cut winning opportunity to Owen McKenna’s Ghost Dancer who claimed the lead before the closing bends. In behind, Great Blue Shark had been almost six lengths adrift of the new leader off the second bend but safely holding a qualifying place beyond halfway, the brave Tina Morrissey trained entertainer would reduce his arrears on the run to the line when going down by three and a half lengths in a fast 28.91 (-40).
