Gary Ryan inducted into the UL Sports Hall of Fame

Former Irish sprint recorder holder Gary Ryan was one of eight outstanding sportspeople inducted into the University of Limerick Sports Hall of Fame last Saturday.

The Kilcommon native was a five time national 100m champion between 1999 and 2005 and also won the 200m title in 1998 and 1999.

Having represented Ireland in the Olympic Games in both 1996 and 2000, Ryan was also the first Irish athlete to reach a global sprint final when he came fourth in the 1997 World University Games.

Ryan also broke 30 Irish sprinting records during his career, including in the Olympic Games in both Atlanta and Sydney.

Over the past five seasons, he has been trainer to the Tipperary hurling team, coming on board in 2014 under the management of Eamon O’Shea and continued in the role up until this season with Michael Ryan but he won't be staying on under the new manager.
