Limerick success well flagged

The senior inter-county hurling season has come to an end with a champion few would have predicted at its beginning.

Many would have seen Limerick in the shake-up with a up-and-coming team but to make the strides they did this year and win the All Ireland title in such a convincing manner is full credit to their players and management who have cultivated a winning culture where their relative lack of experience counted for nothing.

Their progress was well sign-posted, the league win away to Galway which guaranteed them promotion but the game where we found out they were legitimate contenders was below in Pairc Ui Chaoimh in June where despite being down to fourteen men for over a half, they still managed to a draw the game against a Cork side whose pace and movement seemed ideal to taking advantage of having the extra man.

Their only defeat to Clare (they must feel sick this week) has proven to be an aberration, looking jaded following their third game in a row.
