Tipp fail to get out of the blocks as Rebels rise up

Tipperary 0-9

Cork 1-17

An evening that promised so much ended with so little for Tipperary last Saturday.

This was the game Tipperary had targeted since they resumed training last winter, once they get over Waterford, another crack at Cork in a Munster semi-final and prove that the 2016 was no fluke.

Maybe the expectation of what was at stake, reaching another Munster final and continuing their upward trajectory, got to the players because as disappointing as the result was, the lack of performance was even more bemusing.

Take nothing away from Cork, they were impressive, and played as well as any rebel football side has done in a number of years, maybe since the 2015 Munster Final when they drew with Kerry. They played with a hunger, pace and power that Tipperary struggled to match and once they surged into a 1-8 to 0-4 half time lead, the Premier County never looked like recovering.

However, Tipperary more than made things easier for them in the manner they failed to get to the pitch of the game. They started off quite well and created some openings to put Cork on the back foot but when they failed to take them and the rebels settled into a rhythm, the alarm bells began to ring.
