January lecture of Tipperary people

The hidden lives of a Tipperaryman: Tadhg O'Mulrian - scholar and officer of the Habsburg army – is the title of the January lecture of Tipperary People and Places, which takes place in The Source, Thurles on Tuesday January 19th at 7.30pm.

A chance find in a library at Rome, together with research in the archives of the Austrian army at Vienna revealed evidence for the hitherto unknown life of a Tipperaryman of the 18th-century. Perhaps one of the O'Mulryans of Inch, Tadhg excelled himself during many of the battles of the Habsburg empire. In the midst of the roar of the canons he manage to pursue his scholarly interests, culminating in the composition of a history of Ireland.

Dr Dagmar Ó Riain-Raedel has been a member of the Department of History, UCC.
